5 tips to keeping your New Year’s resolution

We know that keeping a New Year’s resolution can be difficult and the chances are at some point in your life you’ve made one and then broken it. This year we are here to stop that cycle. Here are five fantastic tips to keep you on track.

1. Be realistic

Begin by creating an achievable goal. Don’t set yourself the target of ‘running a marathon’ before you’ve reached a mile. Set a goal that is attainable – such as a 5K fun run. Being within reach will help to keep you motivated.

2. Create short term goals

Short-term goals reduce procrastination. When you only focus on the long-term goal, it's like driving to a destination far away without a map. Making it easy to stray off course and get distracted. Having short-term goals helps to keep you focused.

3. Don’t Beat Yourself Up

There might be times when you need to spend a little more, or you couldn’t achieve the full distance of a run or cycle. This is completely normal! Just do the best you can, one day at a time.

4. Remember why you started

Whatever your goal is, there will be a reason why you’re doing it. You might have signed up to a gym to lose weight or begun to raise money for a charity close to your heart. On those day’s where you struggling to keep going, just remind yourself exactly why you started.

5. Be patient

For most goals, they won’t be achievable overnight! It can take weeks for a new activity to become a habit so try and be patient and keep going.
