PHO HANOI DEPTFORD

If you’re a fan of Vietnamese food and have been searching for the best authentic restaurants in Deptford, add Pho Hanoi Deptford to your list.

This Vietnamese restaurant features all your favourites – from Pho (a Vietnamese soup with broth, rice noodles, herbs and meat) and Bún bò Huế (a soup with rice vermicelli and beef) to traditional rice and noodle dishes as well as classics like spring rolls, satay chicken and crispy pancakes.

Dare to try something a little more exotic? They even feature crispy fried frogs’ legs, grilled chicken feet and grilled quail on the menu. You can let us know your thoughts on those…

Pop in and visit them at 207 Deptford High Street, SE8 3NT.

THE TAPAS ROOM DEPTFORD

Wine lover? Add The Tapas Room to your list.

The team aim to show how you can drink really well for less, with a vast collection of Spanish and Basque wines, sherries, cava, vermouth and craft beers to choose from.

Why not treat yourself to a couple of its tapas dishes too? The menu highlights have to be the seared scallop with green chilli sauce and almonds, or the duck breast with spiced butternut squash and blackberries. Top it all off with traditional churros with chocolate and cinnamon sugar. Or stick with simple charcuterie, cheeses and deli meats.

Book a table to avoid queuing – it’s a small spot, and very popular!

Find it at Unit 8, Deptford Market Yard.

MANZES PIE AND MASH

Family owned pie and mash shop Manzes has been serving pies to the residents of SE London for the last 100 years.

Made by hand each day to a secret recipe, its pies are baked fresh each day and served with fluffy mash and parsley sauce. You won’t get more authentic than this old London cockney dish.

It’s certainly not a glamorous place for a meal by any stretch, but you’ll be craving these pies forever once you’ve tasted your first.

Visit them at 204 Deptford High Street, SE8 3PR.

ALLA SALUTE

There’s nothing better than finding an Italian restaurant that nails the classics - Alla Salute does just that. It’s one of our favourite restaurants in Deptford.

Focusing on pastas, pizzas and sides, the menu will leave you spoilt for choice. We love the Strozzapreti al Cacioricotta (fresh pasta with a light tomato sauce topped with delicate semi-hard cow’s milk cheese) or the traditional Sunday lunch of Puglia – Orecchiette al Ragu. Pair your choice with one of their Italian wines, specially selected to match their dishes.

Its pizzas are the most popular in the area (and are available for takeaway too). Proved for 24 hours, they’re made with organic flour and extra virgin olive oil with a choice of 14 different toppings – told you you’d be spoilt for choice!

Book a table or stop by at Indiana Building, 1 Deals Gateway, SE13 7QD.
