Deptford Pub Crawl - Our guide to the bars and pubs in Deptford

Deptford, based in Zone 2 London is home to many fantastic pubs and bars and since the Deptford Market Yard opened there are more places to dress up, unwind with friends and family, or indulge in a cold beer or two. Whether you know the area or not, here’s our guide to discover some of the best pubs Deptford has to offer. Perfect regardless of the weather, or your drinking preferences.

16:15 Lets begin our pub crawl at the The Victoria Pub. This fan favourite based on Grove Street is a three-storey building that is rich in Deptford’s history, having (supposedly) withstood two world wars and still stands here today.

However, today the historic pub has been re-established as a hub for the community. Serving the best ice-cold pint, delicious cocktails and cook up amazing pub grub!

17:30, onto the next, The Dog & Bell a classic in Deptford. Located just off Watergate Street, available at the far end of the high street that divides with Evelyn Street. This brilliant pub serves the best on tap ales and is often referred to as a ‘classic boozer’ despite offering a more peaceful pub experience; The Dog & Bell is worth a visit for beer lovers and pub enthusiasts alike.

18:45, let’s make our way down to Badger Badger, a new independent venture found within Deptford High Street. This fun up and coming pub isn’t your typical classic pub but takes its unorthodox design by “the fiercely independent personality of Deptford; unique, diverse and a little odd”.

Badger Badger offers Japanese street food, plentiful booze, and Tanuki gaming, what more could you want?

20:00, off onto The Birds Nest Pub. Off the DLR at Deptford Bridge train station, head on past the Lewisham College, up Church Street and you’ll arrive to the spacious pub for you to enjoy great music, yummy food, and bohemian atmosphere.

As a music venue, The Birds Nest has hosted some big names and has a long history of commitment to the arts, creativity, and the local community; What’s more, the pub is also incredibly well priced!

21:00, walk towards the high street and DLR to The Full Nelson. This trending bar is Deptford’s first dedicated vegan bar, complete with vegan beers and bar snacks. Offering a bundle of fun for both omnivores and veggies. Dive into a plate of ‘Seitanic Wings’ and a pint of locally crafted beer for the full ‘Full Nelson’ experience.

22:30, lets meander down the high street to our last stop The Royal Standard, perched on the corner of the Herald Street. Not long been refurbished, the pub is smartly furnished, boasting some intriguing artwork for the eyes to enjoy.

The Royal Standard offers an impressive food menu; with season specific dishes that are locally sourced where possible. They also offer an extensive variety of delicious wines and craft beers to enjoy.

After visiting six of these fantastic pubs and bars in Deptford, you’ll have introduced yourself to what makes Deptford such an interesting, diverse, and enjoyable place to live.

Supporting these independent bars and pubs is important as they are what keeps this great part of Lewisham Borough full of energy and life.
